Where Financial Education Meets Action

Where financial education meets action

Money Therapy was founded on the belief that financial education and action should live together. With an increase in financial tools, apps, and options but a stagnation in knowledge many ask themselves "Where do I go when I have a question about my finances?"

When you feel as if you can't trust an advisor but are unsure who to go to for guidance, Money Therapy is your solution.

I help my clients understand their money so that they have the tools to budget, eliminate debt, and understand how investments work. I help you develop an action plan dependent upon your goals. No frills or fuss, this is about maximizing what you have and helping you comprehend it at the same time. I offer multiple consulting services depending on your situation. I know my services might not be right for everyone. I work with individuals who are ready and willing to make a change in their personal financial life. I have clients from all walks of life and do not focus on overall net worth but on the financial health of an individual and family.

Hi! I'm Ellie, and I'm here to help.

My first foray into finance started innocently enough in college where I studied finance for the ultimate goal of becoming an entrepreneur. I knew most businesses failed because a lack of knowledge about money and I didn’t want to become another victim of startup failure. So, when I graduated, I took my knowledge a step further and went to work at J.P. Morgan. During my time there, I acted as a human sponge learning everything I possibly could about investments. Then, my innocent relationship with money quickly blossomed to love.

It isn’t all roses, my love affair with money abruptly ended when I didn’t quite have as much as I used to. Doesn’t that figure? I didn’t just want to know investments. I wanted to learn personal finance as a whole. So, when I moved to Washington, DC and started working for a holistic financial app, I learned a fundamental lesson; regardless of income, if you don't understand how money works, you will never get ahead.

So, when I first started my company and was around other entrepreneurs, they always asked me about how I was able to keep my head out of the water financially when they were all drowning. I started consulting my friends and colleagues in the startup world about money. Thus, Money Therapy began. Now, I have a unique appreciation for all my experiences. From my formal training at J.P. Morgan to my startup training selling to Fortune 500 companies, and now my training with my company.

I know it's hard to get a straight answer when it comes to your money so, I'm here to help.

We work with clients in a one-on-one basis. We host one-hour sessions at different intervals depending on where you are in your financial journey. We do not focus solely on net worth, we focus on overall financial health.

optimizing your income

We hate budgeting. Instead, we focus on percentages based on your income.  How much are you spending compared to your overall income? How much are you putting away? If this isn't in alignment, you cannot save. We focus on getting debt down before we focus on retirement.

401k fix

Do you have a 401k? Are you unsure of what it is? We can help. We guide you in the enrollment process or procedural changes within your current or previous 401k. We can educate you on mutual funds and guide you in how to evaluate them based on your holistic financial goals.

Start-up consulting

We know that as a business owner your personal income affects your business income.  A lack of understanding in your personal finances can impact your business. You could be leaving deals, money, and savings on the table if you don't have a great grasp of your personal finance.

establishing investment Options

You have the income but do you know where to put it? We help educate you about the different investment accounts available to you. This includes but is not limited to a brokerage account, traditional IRA, Roth IRA, and 529 plans if you have little ones.

retirement review

Inherited something from a family member? Parents established an account in your name? Have no idea what it is and how to access it? We help you aggregate your accounts and make sense of anything you may have inherited and utilize it best for your current needs.

goal-based saving

Want to start a business in 5 years? Need to get a new car? We help establish goal-based savings and help you structure your spending and savings to reach these goals. Whether it is long or short-term, we can develop an action plan.

It’s never too late and never too early to start investing. I highly recommend Ellie to help you start investing or improve upon what you are already doing.
— Alice Hu - Entrepreneur
Prior to meeting with Ellie, I had always viewed financial advisors as a necessity only for people who were well into their career and had accumulated a certain amount of wealth… and I found them to be intimidating but Ellie changed that. Upon accepting a new position with a new company, Ellie helped me determine the best 401k option, explained the different types of retirement accounts, and how they would affect my taxes. We even came up with a plan on how to pay my student loan debt. She is professional and empathetic and explained things in an easily digestible way, her solutions were completely realistic and obtainable for my financial situation and lifestyle.

She helped me understand all my options so my family and I could make the best decisions for our future. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with her and looking forward to our quarterly check-ins.
